About The Program
Enabling Independence, Flexibility and Freedom for Home Care Services
Program Benefits
Since you, the consumer, assume employer responsibilities to hire, train, supervise, schedule and terminate caregivers, you are legally able to train your personal assistant to do tasks that a nurse would otherwise perform (such as administering medications) as well as coordinating any other services you may need. No longer are you subject to an agency or home care vendor to control who your home health caregiver is.
Caregivers / Personal Assistants
A caregiver, or personal assistant, can be almost anyone—extended family members, family friends, etc. While your spouse or parent is prohibited per New York State regulations, a consumer’s adult child, son- or daughter-in-law are eligible to be “hired” as caregivers as well as other family members or friends. The caregiver does not have to certified because the training is carried out by the consumer and/or the consumer’s family.
